MEDIA

My Gold Mask started as an experimental home recording project between longstanding musical collaborators Gretta Rochelle and Jack Armondo in 2009. Since then the bands music has been featured in numerous blogs, fashion shows and on TV. But My Gold Mask’s true passion and focus has always been exploring new musical territory and growing as artists. Not concerned with classifications, My Gold Mask’s songs bring to mind their own unique blend of cross boundary influences while a unifying “dark pop” undercurrent threads together their ever growing catalog.

Their latest album ‘Anxious Utopia’ (2016) explores personal themes of anxiety in a way that is empowering and self healing rather than self defeating. Gretta and Jack (with collaborators James Andrew, Balthazar de Ley and Sanford Parker) have created a dance beat frenzied reality that acts as a celebration of what makes us all different and unique in a world sometimes too eager to embrace uniformity.

PRESS QUOTES

“‘Battles’ is a visceral and industrial-tinged anthem and the first single off the Chicago-based trio’s upcoming album” – NYLON
“dark-pop purveyors who cut their thick, smoky atmospherics with buoyant rhythms and elevated melody.” – SPIN
“What they’re delivering now, however, is the band’s best sonic recipe yet—a sophisticated electro-pop foundation, painted with the soaring ingenuity of Shiny Toy Guns’ 2006 debut We Are Pilots and dotted with the nostalgic confidence of 1980’s Pat Benatar.” – BULLET
“…epic breakdowns, mini guitar symphonies, massive drum and cymbal crashes, and lusty choruses. It’s referential without feeling canned; a rambunctious DIY energy mortars together the big moments.” – Pitchfork
“Gretta Rochelle’s vocals paired with the bubbly synths and heavy-hitting percussion.. shows just how versatile the band’s sounds have become.” – NOISEY
“Dark, effortlessly danceable and wonderful is My Gold Mask.” – Chicago Tribune
